Konica Minolta's Perfect Binder PB-501 and bizhub PRO C6500e for flexibility at its best

Langenhagen , Germany , December 2007

Yearbooks, companies' reports and instruction manuals - bound books are required in many areas of daily business. Konica Minolta's digital production system bizhub PRO C6500e is equipped with the Perfect Binder PB-501 to provide its users with this important finishing option. Books bound in this way do not only stress their content's significance but also tolerate continuous and heavy duty use.

Konica Minolta's Perfect Binder PB-501 is available in five newly created bizhub PRO C6500e configurations. The bizhub PRO C6500e and the Perfect Binder integrate seamlessly, providing a fully automatic production and perfect binding workflow which does not require manual intervention. In combination with any one of the bizhub PRO C6500e configurations, the PB-501 is the ideal finishing solution for digital printers, in-house printers and the print service market.

"The PB-501 is a perfect all-in-one binding system. It allows users to conveniently collect one flawlessly bound book after the other," says Karl-Friedrich Edenhuizen of Konica Minolta. "This finishing unit significantly enhances the scope of any production printing environment and provides major time-savings over regular offline-binding. Furthermore, it cuts down expenditures for binding documents."

Many types of books can be produced with the PB-501, which works with a hotmelt gluing technology. Thanks to this technology, PB-501 ensures reliability and perfect binding, no matter whether the book in question consists of several hundred pages or only ten sheets. There is a maximum spine width of 30 mm which may include for example pre-printed colour pages. Independent of the number of pages the future book is going to count, the sheets are so securely bound that manuals, handbooks and reports still hold after a lot of wear and tear. Further advantages of hotmelt gluing: it does not require any manual adjustment inside the equipment nor the stocking of expensive glue strips of varying width.

"Book-on-demand production with the combination bizhub PRO C6500e and PB-501 is really versatile and convenient," says Karl-Friedrich Edenhuizen of Konica Minolta. "On top of the PB-501's various options the digital printing system offers customisation and personalisation of products. Thereby, a personalised manual for the purchaser of an individually tailored printing system can even be produced on that very machine."
